Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic is an official survival horror game developed by Steel Wool Studios as part of the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise. The game focuses on the mysterious Mimic endoskeleton first introduced in Security Breach: Ruin and expands its origins through a darker, exploration-heavy horror experience.
Unlike older FNAF titles that focus on stationary survival gameplay, FNAF: Secret of the Mimic is designed as a free-roam horror adventure. Players move through large interconnected environments while solving puzzles, activating machinery, and escaping hostile animatronics.
Players have to search for clues while avoiding the Mimic, which constantly stalks the facility and adapts its appearance using different costumes and animatronic forms.
Some sections require:
The Mimic is the central antagonist of the game. Unlike traditional FNAF animatronics with fixed designs, the Mimic is a prototype endoskeleton capable of copying costumes, voices, and behaviors.
Its abilities include:
This unpredictability makes encounters far more dangerous compared to earlier FNAF enemies.
The game also introduces new animatronics, including Jackie, a clown-like jack-in-the-box character revealed in trailers and demos. Jackie features glowing eyes, long arms, and disturbing animations that fit the game’s darker tone.
Demo footage shown at conventions featured chase sequences involving Jackie through offices, factory areas, and maintenance corridors.
